DER OTO update - cannot switch to Biscuit mode

DER OTO update - cannot switch to Biscuit mode

Postby jordanstoner » Wed 30 Nov 2011 20:43

After the DER OTO v1.0 update was installed, I cannot switch back to Biscuit mode.

Holding down the "Brain/SEQ" switch and the 4 and 5 buttons on boot will either enter DER OTO mode, or put the unit into a state where none of the buttons are responsive.

Troubleshooting attempted:
- Reloading the DER OTO v1.0 firmware - same result
- Reloading the Biscuit v1.2 firmware - Biscuit returns to normal, but obviously no DER OTO (using the mode switch buttons on boot does light the 1 and 2 buttons white and red, respectively, for a moment; then normal Biscuit operation continues)
- Reloading DER OTO v1.0 firmware after successful roll back to Biscuit v1.2 - same result

In addition, none of the White parameters are editable (when not in Sequence mode) - only the Red parameters can be changed. The white LED's never light up for the step buttons (in either normal or Sequence mode). There are a few other major bugs that I will update this thread with as I experiment more.

I Too cannot bring it back to biscuit mode ... any suggestions for a fix, or will we have to wait for a bug fix?

Love how it sounds very punchy

The "no return to Biscuit" is a bug on this first firmware. My fault, sorry !
I will post a new firmware as soon as possible.

Strange! Did you try to upgrade it again? Or switch it off/on ?
You can also load the 8 factory presets by default if you press "VCA" + "SEQ" when you switch Der OTO on.

Yes, I did reload it once before I posted (by going back to Biscuit v1.2 first). I updated a third time and now the parameters are editable, but when I push the corresponding button there is no white LED (all buttons stay "off" when pushed). According to the manual, it looks as though these should turn white...

The 8 rectangular switches
The different synth parameters are selected by these switches.

When the “SEQ” switch is off, you can select the parameters you want to modify in Der OTO.
Press once to select the parameters written in white (the switch lights up white).
Press twice to select the parameters written in red (the switch lights up red).

When the “SEQ” switch lights up blue, you can select the step you want to modify in your sequence.
Press once to select the steps 1 to 8 written in white (the switch lights up white).
Press twice to select the steps 9 to 16 written in red (the switch lights up red).

In both above instructions, the switches never turn white. Their "red" state is a flashing red LED.

And I also notice that the SEQ switch alternates colors from a blue to a blue-green randomly when turned on (i.e: it's not always the same blue).

Just FYI - these switches and LED colors do stay constant and of normal color when the Biscuit firmware is loaded.

Additionally, turning the unit on will sometimes result in a mode where there seems to be no functionality (described in first post). The green Filter/Run switch is on, but no other buttons are responsive - sometimes I can press the SEQ switch and it will turn blue, but there seems to be about 10 seconds of delay between when I press the switch and when the LED becomes active.

If it would help, I can make a video and upload it to show the behavior - though it's probably premature until I update to the correct firmware.

Hm, maybe you should try to load the firmware again. And then again..
I could it get to work after my 3rd attempt but the envelopes would not work at all and the
LFO would act as envelope. After i loaded the firmware a 4th time the envelopes started to work.

I have absolutely no idea how this stuff works. But right now it works like a charm.
I´d love to have Denis explain how he turned an FX unit into a synthesizer.
For me its just magic :o

Der Oto sounds just beautiful.

Congrats Denis!

I´m really looking forward to your next product.

And even if i´m already almost fluid with Der Oto without the overlay
i´m going to buy it anyways just to support Otomachines.

I experienced the same behaviour as jordanstoner when I finally managed to load Der OTO firmware.

Does sound awesome though. Always loved those filters!

After updating to the new firmware, it's working fine. I had to run the update a few times to get it stable.

Thanks Denis!
